There is available a 4.2mm Lens that reduces the distortion created by the normal Gopro lens and sounds fairly easy to change and cost next to nothing to boot. The lens can apparently be used in all shooting modes and can still be interchanged with the original lens although after fitting the new lens the Gopro will not fit into the waterproof case. Im sure the lens can be changed to fit this though.

To change the lens the Gopro needs to be opened up, the original lens removed by unscrewing and the new lens screwed in and the focus set to between 5m and 10m. I have ordered one of these lenses and will post a small tutorial on how to change over.

Some numbers and stuff.....

Focal length: 4.2mm

F number: 2.8

Distortion: -4%

Diagonal view angle: 78 ° and 60 ° at 720p at 1080p

Thread: M12x0.5

Vapor-deposited IR block filter at 650nm

The lenses are made by a firm called Sunex http://www.optics-online.com/default.asp and can be purchased through these guys in Germany, (who I bought mine from). http://www.globe-flight.de/GoPro-Wechselobjektiv-42mm-78-60-mit-IR-Filter

Take a look at the film they produced flying an RC Octokopter fitted with a Gopro and the new lens.

Aerial view of Bells Beach, Australia.

http://www.fisheyeproduction.com/3/post/2012/01/aerial-view-of-bells-beach-australia.html

http://www.fisheyeproduction.com/3/post/2012/01/aerial-view-of-bells-beach-australia.html#comments

Uncategorized

I have been toying with the idea of designing a mounting system to attach a GoPro to an octocopter and in my research came across this footage by Wobby on Vimeo. The major benefit being a better way of catching all the performance surfing the Rip Curl team riders were doing, rather than just a fraction of it.

Combining our world class surf team of Mick Fanning, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Dillon Perillo and Dean Brady with the multi-frame array of cameras, gave us a Matrix style suite of "Mirage Moments", which pull the viewer in to the image, stalling there for long enough to enjoy a great move, before travelling down the line through the footage to the next Mirage Moment.
